Pilgrim Badges
Pilgrim badges were sold in the medieval period as souvenirs of pilgrimage. All of the badges below are accurate copies of surviving pewter artefacts. P45 - St Cecilia
This badge depicts St Cecilia playing an organ. It is thought that Cecilia died in Sicily in the 3nd century. She became the patroness of Musicians owing to the legend that, as she lay dying a martyrs death, she praised God by singing to him. Her feast day is celebrated on November 22nd.
